Our raking leaves activity yesterday based on the book Red Leaf Yellow Leaf by Lois Elhert was so much fun that I followed it up with another fall activity. I am just so excited about fall! I love the colors. I love the leaves. So I put them together in a fall sensory bin.

I used the popcorn kernels I saved from our popcorn sensory bin. I threw in some foam gourds I bought at the dollar store, and some fake leaves I had on hand. To top it off I threw in an orange spoon for stirring and an apple bean bag.

Sweet Girl stirred and scooped and poured popcorn kernels all afternoon. It was a little messy. Kernels went flying a few times. We talked about all the fall colors and the names of the items in the sensory bin. I still could not get her to say leaves. It kind of sounds like fleas when she says it.

Today was our first really cool day in months. As we were driving back from our errands this morning in the rain I was in the mood to celebrate fall. I just wanted to relax, watch a chick flick and craft. So while Sweet Girl napped I watched While You Were Sleeping and worked on my fall wreath, post coming soon. It was a lovely afternoon.

When Sweet Girl woke up the fall celebration continued with an activity inspired by the book Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Elhert. While she was sleeping I spread some fake fall leaves on the living room floor and set out a toy rake.

Together we played in the leaves, and raked them into a pile. Well, I raked them into a pile and Sweet Girl just raked them around in different directions. I couldn't quite convince her that they were leaves and not flowers. In the end she compromised by calling them fleaves.

We still have to wait a couple of months for the leaves here to start falling, but for now we can have fun playing with our own red and yellow leaves in our living room.

Even though it is still almost 100 degrees here, fall is in the air and I am excited! I love fall. I love the holidays, the food, wearing sweaters, and lots more. Fall is also a great time for crafting. I love word art. I think they are such a fun decoration for every season. I decided I wanted to experiment with making my own word art for fall. So here is my first attempt. I included all the things I love about fall. Feel free to click and download this fall word art printable to add to your fall decorations.

This fall serving platter used to be this Christmas platter. The transformation cost me $3.50.

This lovely Christmas platter was given to me a couple years ago. It has been sitting in my cupboard in the original box ever since. It's a nice platter, but it's just not my style. A few weeks ago I was cleaning out my cupboards and decided to put this in the box of things to get rid of. Then I cam across this Tray Makeover from Shabby Gals. Perfect timing. I decided to try to makeover my platter. Worst case scenario, it turned out really bad and I threw it away instead of donating it.

I bought some yellow spray paint from Walmart and started spraying. Looking back, it would have been a good idea to use primer, because it took a lot of coats to cover up that red trim. After it was painted I sprayed a matte finishing spray on it to prevent chipping. Then I added the vinyl letters that I cut out on my Cricut. I used leftover vinyl from another project. I am a big believer in saving your scraps!

It looked a little empty with just the word, so I added some leaves to make it look more like a fall platter. I'm excited to use this to serve up some delicious fall treats. Maybe some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
